Floor to Ceiling4/4/2024 how disaster site leaders make all the difference![]() After the urgent concern of a disaster has passed - when debris has been cleared, and news crews have gone home, and tarped roofs and boarded windows are doing a good-enough job of making space tolerable - it is the ongoing and careful attention to detail that helps families really recover, return to safe and secure houses, and feel like they’re home again. Group Volunteers and Disaster Site Leaders are a foundational part of long-term disaster recovery. On April 23, to celebrate National Volunteer Week, we’ll have stories of impact from recent Week of Compassion volunteers – and preview volunteer sites and opportunities where you can connect! update on Texas wildfires3/26/2024 ![]() Following the extensive wildfires in the Texas Panhandle in late February, Week of Compassion has been in regular contact with our local churches and ecumenical partners in the area. Caroline Hamilton-Arnold, Associate Director for Domestic Disaster Response, notes that in local coordination calls, no material donations were being requested (mostly due to space limitations for sorting and storing donations). In addition to Solidarity Grants to the churches in the affected areas, Week of Compassion’s primary engagement will be in the rebuilding and long-term recovery. Prayers for Holy Week and Easter3/21/2024 ![]() Beginning Sunday, followers of Christ will mark a holy season, with Palm Sunday and Easter celebrations at each end, with days of penitent reflection in between. Across generations, the faithful have found meaning in worship, ritual, and song. Week of Compassion offers these prayers for each day, to draw us closer in faithfulness throughout this truly Holy Week. These prayers will also post daily on our social media platforms, where you are more than welcome to share. Resilient Communities & Climates3/19/2024 water and farming in Vietnam |
