I. Preparation
__ Gather your committee.
__ Review your materials, including this Leader’s Guide and your standing order materials as well as other WOC resources. If additional materials are needed, contact the WOC Office right away.
__ Search this website: www.weekofcompassion.org.

II. Challenge
__ Review your congregation’s history of giving to Week of Compassion.
__ Set your goal — consider adding 10% to your largest WOC Offering in the last five years. Or offer a minimum goal ($25 for example) per household.
__ Keep the congregation informed of its progress toward your goal.

III. Promotion
__ Let the congregation know about your Week of Compassion observance.
__ Display posters in high traffic areas throughout the building.
__ Prepare articles for your church newsletter in the weeks before the offering is taken.
__ Send a letter to members and friends inviting them to participate in the Offering.
__ Check the WOC website for regular updates and share them with your congregation.
__ Create a special Week of Compassion display in the narthex or other place of high visibility.
__ Plan special events to raise your congregation’s awareness of Week of Compassion.
__ Invite a special speaker or create a special program to be part of your worship or an outreach dinner, e.g., see the skit on pgs. 12-13. Additional dramas are on the website.

IV. Proclamation
__ Include “Minutes for Mission” in Sunday worship services.
__ Use (adapt as needed) worship and liturgical resources. Please see the model service included in the sample packet.
__ Share sermon suggestions and children’s sermon ideas with your pastor.
__ Thank the congregation for sharing.
__ Thank the various people who participated in planning and carrying out the WOC observance.
__ Give thanks for the many ministries of caring, hope and service Week of Compassion supports on behalf of your congregation and Disciples in the U.S. and Canada in the name of Jesus Christ.

V. Conclusion
__ Give thanks for and consecrate the WOC Offering during worship. Ask God’s blessings upon these gifts, that they might truly bring help and hope to hurting people throughout the world.
__ Thank the congregation for sharing.
__ Share any special ideas or activities that worked well with the Week of Compassion Office. We’ll share them with others.
