Assurances of Forgiveness
The scriptures assure us: God does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward us; as far as the east is from the west, so far he removes our transgressions from us. God's forgiveness is ours. Thanks be to God.

The scriptures assure us that God is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. Be at peace, therefore, in the assurance that God is a faithful God who is true to his promises. God's forgiveness is yours.

God's grace overcomes our selfishness. God's love overcomes our lovelessness. God's mercy opens our closed-in lives. God's compassion embraces us. Rejoice and give thanks, therefore, for the gift of God's forgiveness that is yours in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be like snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.
Isaiah 1:18

The scripture assures us that if we walk in the light as God is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. If we confess our sins, the God who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Be assured, therefore, of God's compassionate mercy. God's forgiveness is yours.

Sisters and Brothers in Christ, the One whose word challenges our complacency is also the One whose word shows us the way; the One whose light illumines our sin is also the One who died for our sinfulness. This is the good news of the gospel: In Jesus Christ God empowers us to God's service, and through him our sins our forgiven.
